President, Britt Land Services

Describe a typical day

That’s the fun part, there is no typical day! I can be working on proposals for a new client, team dynamics, strategy execution or heading out the field to meet with a landowner.

Perks of your job and things you like about your current company.

I love the people I work with, both inside of Britt Land and our clients. They are what inspires me. When I am connected to our people and clients I feel really happy and successful. I love the challenges with my role, flexibility and opportunity to make an impact. Obviously I am a huge Britt Land fan, from the culture we have created to the interesting projects we get to work on. I love building teams and leaders and helping people grow, I have this opportunity on a daily basis.

Proudest accomplishments both in and outside of work.

I feel proud when I reflect upon what we have created at Britt Land, our culture is super cool and I love that we are able to provide fun & fulfilling jobs to our team. I’m grateful and humbled from some of the awards (winning a 2015 Business In Calgary Leaders Award & 2014 YWE Award) and recognition (magazine covers & articles) we have received recently. Our team has been celebrating this and it’s pretty neat to see how proud my parents are. I’m really happy with where I am at in my life and thankful for the challenges/opportunities that have come my way. It’s tough for me to separate inside and outside of work as they are so connected. I get a huge feeling of pride and joy when I look at my sister and who she is, I wouldn’t be able to do my job or have as much fun at it without her by my side.

Thoughts on the future of the industry as it relates to your field.

It’s constantly changing and evolving so we need to stay on our toes. From regulatory changes and requirements, to stakeholder involvement, technology and the fluctuations in the market. We need to be able to adapt quickly and ensure that we continue to hire, engage and retain the best talent out there.

Current community involvement efforts.

I am super pumped to be on the 2015 YWE Awards selection committee! I’m also involved in other committee work including the Field Acquisition Management Committee with Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen and a Parkinson Alberta Committee. My family and Britt Land are very involved in raising awareness and funds for Parkinson’s disease. And I am a huge animal lover, any time I can get involved in a cause to help them I’m in.

Why YWE?

I really enjoy the YWE Community, as the women I have had the opportunity to meet have been awesome, so inspiring. The YWE operations team and board also work really hard to ensure they provide value to their members and as a result, I have attended some great learning and networking events. YWE hits on the importance of bringing to light the need to create a space where women are not only recognized as leaders and role models within the energy sector but can connect and create a community with other women.

What are you reading?

I always have an eclectic mix of books on the go. Right now that includes ‘Scaling up’ by Verne Harnish, ‘Instructions for Happiness & Success’ by Susie Pearl, ‘Opening the Senses of the Soul’ by Samantha Orthlieb and I just finished ‘Why Have Kids’ by Jessica Valenti.
