Event Details:

8:00   –  9:30 am         Breakfast and Speaker Panel “A glimpse into the journey line of Calgary’s leading women”
We all travel a unique path to become the people that we are today – through personal and professional career lows and highs, each journey line marks lessons learned and insights to be shared. Hear from four of Calgary’s leading executives in this up close and personal session.

10:00 – 11:30 am Workshop: Investing in You! From the first deposit to the ultimate pay off!

This workshop aims to further your understanding of how to build and leverage your Career Capital, regardless of where you are on their career. You will be challenged to take responsibility for your own careers by reflecting on your goals and objectives, leveraging your strengths and identifying the necessary ingredients needed to grow your Career Capital.

1 – 2 p.m Inside the Issues:  Gender@ Work – Identifying the structure of gender diversity and inequity in the contemporary workplace
Organizations are increasingly realizing that a key to success lies in greater gender diversity in the workplace. However, the ramifications of increased participation of women are not clearly understood; with many organizations suggesting that the problems – and solutions – reside in women. Such models neglect to appreciate how gender diversity is a multifaceted, complex, and all-encompassing phenomenon that is fundamentally transforming the way we work and live. A useful starting place is to examine some of the perceptions of gender roles and relationships and how those perceptions influence the way we value individual workers and work styles. Only by recognizing our unspoken assumptions about gender identities can we begin to revitalize the workplace and create healthy, sustainable professional cultures.Dr. Rebecca Sullivan is the Director of the Institute for Gender Research at the University of Calgary and the Research Leader for the Gender @ Work program to bring the most current and cutting edge research on gender diversity into the Calgary workplace.

Dr. Sullivan’s session is hosted by the YYC International Women’s Day 2014 Steering Committee and Accenture.

2:15-3:15 p.m Young Women in Energy Panel Discussion: Build Your Personal Brand
Join us for an impactful session where industry experts will walk you through the essential elements of building a personal brand. Through the guidance of expert speakers, take-home checklists and group discussion you will learn how a strong personal brand can help take your career to the next level.
3:30-4:30 p.m Issues Facing Aboriginal Women Workshop - In Memory of Our Sisters in Spirit
Nation-wide there are over 862 murdered and missing Aboriginal women. These women are grandmothers, mother’s daughters, sisters and aunts, whose lives have been taken by deadly acts of violence, racism and discrimination. The silence in the wake of their very existence is deafening. Who is really listening? Speaker: Josie Nepinak is the Executive Director of the Awo Taan Healing Lodge Society in Calgary, Alberta. Josie has been a part of Awo Taan since its inception in 1992. Her passion, vision, determination and leadership has aided Awo Taan’s ongoing growth and development over the years.
