How do I nominate someone?

We're so glad you've chosen to nominate a deserving young woman! You can nominate by filling out our nomination form.  Submit the name of a young woman for consideration and  she will be contacted and encouraged to apply. You can then work with your nominee to fill out the required documentation. You can provide the professional or peer reference, as appropriate.

How do I know if I am eligible for the award?

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Do you reside in Alberta?
  • Are you a YWE member?
  • Do you have a minimum of three years' experience in the energy sector (CO-OP terms are not to be included in the three years)?
  • Do you work in energy or at an energy-related service provider?

Specifically, we are looking for candidates that demonstrate the following attributes and qualities:

  • Exceptional leaderships abilities (with or without the title)
  • Commitment to challenging status quo having pioneered new and innovative initiatives
  • Top performance (taking the initiative to go above and beyond)
  • Drive, motivation, and the desire to lead, including activities to further yourself professionally
  • Community engagement (both internally such as driving diversity initiatives and external volunteer work) 
How do I apply?

If you meet all of our eligible criteria HERE, please complete the required documentation and submit your application to awards@youngwomeninenergy.com by September 30, 2017, 5:00 p.m. MST.

Required Documentation

  1. Personal Statement (500 words)
  2. Professional Reference from existing employer or client (250 words)
  3. Peer Reference (250 words)
  4. Current Resume

These components give applicants the opportunity to highlight the following qualities and attributes

Why so many references for the application?

We feel it’s important to have a comprehensive understanding of each individual applicant to identify themes and common threads across their references. 

Can someone apply on behalf of another individual?

If you are nominating someone, you can support them by providing the professional or peer reference, but ultimately the applicant must submit their own 500 word personal statement and provide a current resume

Is this just for Calgary residents?

The 2016 YWE Awards are open to Alberta residents. Full award criteria can be found HERE 

Is there an age limit?

No, there is no age restriction. Please note, we do focus on emerging female leaders with a minimum of three years of energy-related experience.

What do the award winners get?

Can I apply again if I applied last year but wasn't selected?

Absolutely. We encourage applicants to apply again this year. 

How are the winners judged?

Submissions will be reviewed by multiple reviewers. First, the YWE Operations team and advisory committee will review and provide detailed scores for each application. The top scored applicants will then be reviewed by our Executive Selection Committee, who then give both a score and a recommendation.
