Salary & Benefits: $15.50/hour for nine (9) weeks, 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday, variable day-time hours, occasional evenings)

Young Women in Energy (YWE)

Young Women in Energy (YWE) is a non-profit organization based in Calgary, Alberta. For young women, by young women, YWE aims to champion the interests of young women working in the energy industry. Through our events and programs, we aim to address the recognized need to increase female presence, development and leadership in the energy industry. Join us as we work to ‘change the face of energy’!

This year, through the support of the Canada Summer Jobs Grant Program, we are able to offer a summer student the opportunity to work with, and learn from industry professionals while gaining applicable energy and discipline-specific work experience.

Project Coordinator (Summer Student)

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Project Coordinator will complete multiple projects across the portfolios of the organization, including but not limited to: Fund Development, Communications, Governance, Leadership Development, Awards, Programs (Golf League and Book Club), and Volunteer Management. This role is project-based, and will offer the student a variety of opportunities to significantly expand their network and transfer the skills you learn to your future academic and professional work experiences. This opportunity would be ideal for someone interested in working in the energy industry after graduation as there will be exposure to many different energy companies and personnel throughout the term. The student will present results and learnings to the Board of Directors at the end of the term.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify gaps, and recommend improvements to current operational processes and procedures (operational manuals, onboarding documents, engagement strategies, etc.)

  • Research, and present on barriers to gender diversity and inclusion

  • Implement and maintain a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database

  • Research, write and manage content for YWE’s e-mail newsletter, blog and social media accounts

  • Prepare, format and coordinate materials and presentations for YWE’s external audiences

  • Identify opportunities for improvement on current programming (Golf League and Book Club)

  • Assist in sponsorship outreach and coordination

  • Research and prepare grant applications applicable to YWE’s short and long term goals

  • Provide event planning support for the 2018 YWE Leadership Summit

  • Support the ‘YWE Brand Evolution’ project

  • Research and support the creation of a Leadership Development Program

  • Support the development of a Community of Practice (COP) to remove systemic barriers for female leaders in energy

Qualifications:

  • All applicable disciplines are encouraged to apply (Business, Communications, Engineering, Sciences, etc.)

  • Technical and computer proficiency with a strong knowledge of MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point)

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Eagerness to enhance your skills and expand your network

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and with others outside of the organization

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently

  • Enthusiastic and motivated

  • Interest in working in the energy industry AND gender and diversity initiatives

Canada Summer Job Grant Program Requirements:

  • is between 15 – 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;

  • was registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year;

  • intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year;

  • is a student in a secondary, post-secondary, vocational or technical ;

  • is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration Refugee Protection Act* and;

  • is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.

  • *foreign students are not eligible.
